How many calls does a furniture store miss after close?
Between 14% and 33% of customer conversations at the furniture retailers we measured arrived after the showrooms had closed. For a 6-showroom store taking 40 calls a location a day, that is roughly 1,000 to 2,400 conversations a month that nobody is there to answer.
What our data shows
We looked at three furniture retailers running AiPRL, from 6 to 16 showrooms. The share of conversations that came in after close ranged from 14% to a third:
| Retailer | Channels | After close |
|---|---|---|
| 7 showrooms | chat + text | 33% |
| 16 showrooms | chat + text | 23% |
| 6 showrooms | calls + chat | 14% |
What they ask after close
The same things they ask during the day. At one 6-showroom retailer, order status led by a wide margin: 1,435 of 6,968 calls were "where's my delivery?", ahead of product questions (425), support (413) and appointments (294).
Three ways to cover it
- Voicemail. Free, but the customer waits until morning, and many don't leave one.
- An answering service. A person picks up, but can't see your orders or your schedule.
- AI that reads your systems. Answers the delivery and stock questions from your own data and books the appointment.
Work out your own number
Multiply your locations by your calls per location per day, then by 30, then by 14% and 33%. The missed-call calculator does it for you.
